Little Sioux Scout Ranch Grand Re-opening
Remembering the Past/Rebuilding for the Future
Hopefully everyone has heard about the Grand Re-opening celebration to be held at the Little Sioux Scout Ranch on May 2, 2009! Ceremonies begin at 10am on May 2 at the stage (see map) and are free to the public. Saturday day only activities are $5.00 per person. Youth and Adult camping is available for all registered Packs, Troops and Crews from May 1-3 and is $15.00 per person. Register online or download the form if registering for more than 25 people. Saturday day activities currently scheduled include an obstacle course, a monkey bridge, an orienteering booth, a GPS course, hands-on rope making, a cooking demonstration, and handicap awareness. Other activities include the Iowa State Highway Patrol’s “Rollover Car” demonstration, the Legion Riders motorcycles, the Monona County Search and Rescue Dog Team, the American Red Cross, and The Iowa Department of Natural Resource’s wildlife display. Download the timeline of events. Learn more about the updates at Little Sioux Scout Ranch.
In addition, during the ceremony on Saturday, a time capsule will be buried on-site and each Scouting organization is asked: to bring one small item to be placed in the time capsule. What creative item will your group contribute to be uncovered by the next generation? Hope to see you out at the Ranch. Reservations need to be made by March 18 in order to receive the coin and patch. Reservations made after that date will have to buy those items from the trading post.
If you are planning on joining us for the grand re-opening ceremonies for Little Sioux Scout Ranch, please plan on arriving early. Parking and walking will take some time and you do not want to miss the ceremony that begins at 10 a.m. at the stage (see map).
In the event of rain, unfortunately parking will not be available for day visitors on Saturday May 2, 2009. Those scouts and units that have registered for the Spring Camporee will still be accommodated in specially designated camping and parking areas. Due to the limited areas for parking if it is raining, the Little Sioux Scout Ranch Committee will be hosting dates in the future so you can stop by to visit or join the Little Sioux Scout Ranch Committee and become part of the rebuilding and the future of this beautiful camp. If you are planning on attending the Ohwahnasee, Trailblazer & Goldenrod 3 District Spring Camporee as part of the Grand Reopening - please fill out this registration form only and do not fill out the Grand Reopening registration.
Camping registration fee includes commemorative coin, patch and access to activities*. Saturday activity only registration fees allow participation in activities, but no coin or patch. These may be purchased at the camp trading post.
For those camping: Units will be required to furnish health forms, tour permits, and a written roster at check in. Meals will be the unit's responsibility. Unit cooking is allowed, however, we encourage units to purchase lunch from vendors. Only the vehicle towing a trailer will be allowed in the campsite. The trailer and vehicle must remain until Sunday morning. This is a safety issue. All camping gear must be at camp by Friday night, including those who are camping Saturday night only.
For more information, please contact Judy Erb at djerb@fmctc.com or Dave Tasich at heavy@iowatelecom.net.
* Youth and Adult camping registration by 3/11/09 includes coin, patch, camping & activities. After 3/11/09 includes camping and activities only.
