New Information out at Leadership Summit

On Saturday, January 14, adult leaders from every district around the Council came together to get new program information and share ideas.

Traditionally held in January and September of each year, this meeting offered a lot of great information about the following topics. Download the Leadership Summit Presentation  to learn more!

  • 2012 Journey to Excellence Program
  • How our Council ended the 2011 Journey to Excellence
  • New Ideal Year of Scouting Planning Guides
  • Information on the NEW Guide to Advancement
  • 2012 Cub Camping Guide now available – Registration opens February 2012
  • A new Camp Card fundraising opportunity being piloted in the Metro this year
  • Gathering of Nations Encampment (G.O.N.E) for 14-20 year old co-ed youth
  • 2012 Philmont Shakedown/High Adventure Weekend Workshop & 2013 Mid-America Council Philmont Contingent Application  now available
  • 2013 Jamboree
  • Spring Activity Guides will be available at February Roundtable
  • Scouting for Food April 14th & April 21st
  • New Council Training Chair Sheryl Oakman joining the Council Operations
  • April – Child Abuse Awareness Month – Youth Protection begins with YOU!
  • Train-A-Ganza
  • Outdoor Leader Trainings will be held at Camp Cedars the weekend of April 20th – 22nd
  • The new Good to Great Membership Campaign flyer 
  • The Council Awards Reception Dinner is moving from November to January. The 2012 class of Silver Beavers will be recognized at the January 2013 banquet. Nomination forms for Silver Beaver will be available in February
  • Sirens placed at Little Sioux Scout Ranch to alert campers of weather hazards and have the capabilities to make announcements
  • Little Sioux Scout Ranch held a controlled burn in November that was very successful
  • Camp Assessment Ad Hoc committee led by Denny Deters will be working with National BSA to evaluate our Council camp properties
  • Camp Cedars Trading Post Shelter project has broken ground and look for the building to be complete by the 2012 camping season
  • Cindy Cone returns as Summer Camp Director at Camp Cedars, and is looking for exceptional staff to join her
  • Voice of the Scout  is a new program to get feedback from our members. Sign up to receive the survey in the spring and let us know how we are doing. Scroll to the bottom, enter your email and click "Go"
  • Scout Executive Eric Magendantz spoke about the Fireside Chats he is hosting, to connect with Scouts and Scouters alike
  • An Emergency Procedures Presentation  was used in the Cub Camping session to highlight the importance of getting trained in Weather Hazards and this training can be taken online

A few breakout meetings were then held following lunch.

  • A Roundtable breakout was held to highlight the purpose of roundtable and how it can benefit everyone
  • A Commissioner breakout was held to meet and greet the new Council Commissioner Steve Lanni
  • A Cub Camping breakout was held for Cub Camping Committee and Camp Directors to continue planning for the 2012 Cub Camping program

The next Leadership Summit will be held Saturday, September 15, 2012, in Omaha. Specific time and location details will be released here shortly.
